Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser (Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation) skin resurfacing utilizes a laser to remove layers of damaged, acne prone or wrinkled skin primarily on the face. The laser is effective in removing fine lines around the mouth and eyes as well as addressing facial scars and uneven pigmentation.

Active FX (Fractional Skin Resurfacing) is a cosmetic procedure that uses a laser beam to focus on specific areas of damaged skin and help greatly in treating scars, spots, and skin tone variations. The result of this treatment is that skin is tighter and smoother, with an improved tone and texture and new collagen formation is stimulated. Active FX works on improving surface pigment irregularities, sun damage and also improves fine lines and wrinkles using a high energy laser light beam that interacts with the skin’s surface, causing the upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of new, healthy skin. The procedure itself often takes no more than 30 minutes and there is no anesthesia, only a topical skin cream, and healing is done in several days.

Diode Laser The Diode laser is a laser that generates an intense beam of light. The light is absorbed by the oxyhemoglobin (red blood cells carrying oxygen) and melanin/pigment (black or brown pigment found in skin) causing decompensation or destruction by heat of unwanted cells while leaving healthy cells intact.

VBeam Laser The VBeam Laser is ideal for unwanted spider veins, rosacea, red birth marks, discolored scarring. Plus, when used with microdermabrasion, the VBeam has shown a reduction of fine lines and toning of the skin in many patients. The new VBeam Laser treats a variety of common skin conditions quickly and with little pain. In a short period of time, the VBeam can improve a condition that has been bothering you for years. The VBeam laser works by shining a laser beam on the area of skin where the problem occurs. The laser beam is attracted to the reddish color of hemoglobin pigment in the blood. The laser produces a wavelength of light that can be controlled in intensity and pulse duration. A laser gently removes the top layers of damaged skin allowing fresh skin cells to replace the old ones. The precision of the laser allows for greater control in treating sensitive areas of the face.

Patient Considerations: The newest lasers are very precise allowing for a greater variety of applications. Only a skilled certified laser consultant can determine the appropriate intensity and duration of the laser specific to the area being treated. The patient’s skin pigmentation, condition of the skin, and hypersensitivity to the laser should be properly evaluated. At The Plastic Surgery Group our certified laser specialists have years of experience in using the laser as a facial refinement option.
