The number of male cosmetic procedures are continuing to grow, as more and more men are seeking the same anti-aging benefits as women. Last year, 1.1 million cosmetic medical procedures were performed on men, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Many male patients who receive cosmetic procedures achieve a more youthful appearance, more comfort in daily activities and more self confidence.
The top eight cosmetic surgical procedures performed on men include: nose reshaping (rhinoplasty), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), liposuction, breast reduction, hair transplants and tummy tucks (abdominoplasty).
The top five minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed on men include: injections (Botox or Dysport), laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels.
Anatomical differences create unique considerations for a man thinking about cosmetic surgery versus a woman. Muscles tend to be thicker, chemical reactions in the body differ and a greater variance in exposed skin areas have to be a considered. While these differences do not necessarily pose a greater possibility of complications, gender difference may alter procedure choice or the extent of the procedure.
The doctor must understand your goals, and your tendency toward scarring. Men cannot cover scars in the facial area as well as women due to hairstyle and makeup limitations.
Research shows that men are usually more concerned about privacy, creating a
need to be off work longer following facial procedures. This helps others from recognizing the tell-tale signs of cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic procedures work well for men. Extensive research, selecting the right doctor, and understanding preoperative and postoperative care can reduce the risk of complications.
"After losing 130 pounds through exercise and diet I needed a tummy tuck and I chose The Plastic Surgery Group and I couldn't be happier! I am thrilled with not only my result but with the aftercare that the doctors provided. If you are thinking about ANY type of procedure, I cannot recommend The Plastic Surgery Group highly enough."
